You may want to consider a Color Touch Screen thermostat as it offers a variety of background images and the ability to upload your photos to display as a slide show. This thermostat is much more aesthetically pleasing than the standard digital display.
Wireless Remote thermostats give you the ability to take the thermostat with you in any room of your house. Simply set the remote thermostat to your settings and be comfortable anywhere in the house.
On a day predicted to be 90 degrees or above, turn the a/c system on during the cooler morning hours. It is best not to wait until the temperature inside reaches a temperature above your comfort setting as it may take all day to cool down.
If the outside temperature is mild, consider turning on the fan before turning on the a/c. Operating the fan on your central heating & a/c system uses less energy than the a/c.
Most thermostats turn the system on once the temperature reaches a two degree difference from your setting. Example: If your thermostat is set to heat to 72 degrees and it is 71 degrees in your home, the thermostat will call for heating once the temperature drops to 70 degrees. This keeps the system from performing the costly energy operation of continuously starting up and shutting down.
Ensure your thermostat is located on an interior wall away from sunlight or drafts so that the temperature reading is the same as the rest of the home. This keeps the thermostat operating the h.v.a.c. system to reach the comfort level in the living space rather than just the area where the thermostat is located.
It is common that we prefer different comfort temperatures based on whether we are awake or asleep. Take this into consideration when setting your thermostat in night/evening mode.
